In June last year, a male Sumatran elephant that died with a severed head was found in an oil palm plantation area owned by PT. Bumi Flora in Jambo Reuhat Village, Banda Alam District, East Aceh District, Aceh. After conducting an in-depth investigation, Finally, the police managed to solve the murder case.

Five people arrested, one person is still DPO

Resort Police (police station) East Aceh succeeded in capturing 5 the person who killed the elephant, namely JN alias DG (35), IN (41), SN (33), SW (50), and RA (46). The five actors have their respective roles. The perpetrator JN alias DG is tasked with hunting and killing the elephant for its tusks. While the other four actors act as sellers or those who trade body parts of these protected animals. Apart from the five perpetrators, another person is added to the People's Search List (DPO) and is still in the process of being pursued. Currently, the perpetrators along with evidence in the form of the proceeds of crime and the tools used are secured at the East Aceh Police for further development.

Before being beheaded the elephant had been poisoned

Before taking the elephant tusk, JN alias DG first poisoned the animal. After confirming death, The perpetrator cut off the elephant's head to make it easier to retrieve the ivory. This is in accordance with the results of the forensic laboratory examination carried out, that the elephant's death was the result of being poisoned. The condition of the missing head and tusks confirms that the elephant is approx 12-15 that year died due to hunting and wildlife trade.

The perpetrators were charged with Article 21 verse (2) letter a and Article 40 verse (2) Law No 5 Year 1990 on Natural Resources Conservation in conjunction with Article 55 KUHP.
